Interview questions for hourly jobs,
and how to answer
Most interviews for hourly roles come back to the same few questions. Prepare a short, true answer for each and you'll walk in calm.
“Tell me about yourself.”
Keep it to three sentences: what you do now, one strength that fits this job, and why you want it. Skip your life story.
“What's your availability?”
Be exact and honest: days, shifts and any limits. Flexibility is valuable, but promising shifts you can't work causes problems later.
“Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer or coworker.”
Use a simple shape: the situation, what you did, and how it ended. Focus on what you did, and keep it calm and short.
“Why did you leave your last job?”
Stay positive and brief. Looking for more hours, better pay, a closer location or growth are all fine answers.
“Do you have any questions for us?”
Always have one or two. Good ones: “What does a typical shift look like?” and “What do your best people do differently?”
