How to follow up
after you apply
A short, polite follow up can move your application to the top of the pile. Most people never send one.
When to follow up
- Hourly roles: 3 to 5 days after applying
- Office roles: about a week after applying
- After an interview: a thank you within 24 hours, then a check in after the date they gave you
How to reach them
Use the contact in the listing or the confirmation email if there is one. For local businesses, calling or stopping by during a quiet time can work well.
A message you can adapt
“Hi, I applied for the Warehouse Associate position on Monday and wanted to say I'm very interested. I'm available for day or night shifts and can start right away. Is there anything else you need from me? Thank you, Maria.”
What not to do
- Don't follow up every day
- Don't send a long message or attach your resume again unless asked
- Don't take silence personally, some employers never reply
Never forget again
Mark a job as applied and ask Metchy to remind you when it's time to follow up.
